Notice to Remedy Toolkit – Implementing 2026 Legislative Changes
On July 24, 2026, Governor Pritzker signed Public Act 104-647 into law (formerly Senate Bill 2914), bringing significant procedural changes to the process for K-12 public school districts to issue a notice to remedy (a mandatory notice to address remediable misconduct prior to dismissal) to a tenured teacher, while also making the board of education’s decision subject to binding arbitration. Franczek, P.C. has prepared a suite of documents to assist school boards and their administrations through the process – from initial investigation through the board of education’s final decision and required notices along the way. This toolkit has eight documents including a Q and A, a model board policy, administrative procedures and supporting exhibits, parameters for the administration’s investigation report, proceedings before the board of education and a template board resolution.
