2019 Class of LEADS Fellows Begins at Franczek
Franczek P.C. is pleased to welcome Amanda Mehr and Muaaz Maksud as its LEADS Fellows for Summer 2019. Franczek established its LEADS summer program for law students in 2011.
LEADS stands for Legal Education for the Advancement of Diversity and Scholarship and consists of an intensive eight-week program designed for diverse first- and second-year law students with a demonstrated interest in representing management in labor and employment and education matters. The program’s goal is to provide participants intense and practical legal experience in labor, employment, and education law while developing a pipeline of highly qualified, diverse candidates for future employment in the legal profession.
Amanda Mehr, a student at Chicago-Kent College of Law, is a member of the Society of Women in Law, the Labor, and Employment Law Society, and Chicago Kent Lambdas. Prior to law school, Amanda taught high school English and served as a school administrator. She earned her Master of Business Administration from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. She also holds a Master of Arts in Educational Policy and Leadership, magna cum laude, and a Bachelor of Arts in Writing Intensive English and Politics and Law, cum laude, both from Marquette University. In her spare time, Amanda teaches indoor cycling and enjoys challenging herself by competing in marathons and triathlons.
Muaaz Maksud is a student at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law where he serves as V.P. of Curriculum and Training of Street Law and President of the Muslim Law Student Association. Muaaz received his Bachelor of Science, cum laude, from Georgetown University. Prior to law school, Muaaz worked as a paralegal at Berry Appleman & Leiden. Muaaz speaks six languages and enjoys cricket, basketball, and traveling.
