ISACS Virtual Summer Program—Legal Considerations for Educating Students Through the Pandemic

Dana Fattore Crumley presents “Legal Considerations for Educating Students through the Pandemic” as part of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) Virtual Summer Progam: Leading in the New Landscape. This session covers legal issues that are central to remote learning as well as considerations for the transition back to the physical classroom. Topics include consent for participation, addressing confidentiality concerns, protecting student data privacy, maintaining appropriate digital security, recording of lessons and student record implications, staff/student boundary issues, student discipline in a virtual setting, and providing accommodations to students who have learning differences. The session also reviews current guidance on return to the school building, including pre-requisites for daily entry, social distancing, and changes in student and staff policies necessary to protect a safe and healthy learning environment.
