The end of the 2010s brought significant changes in the law governing the use of technology and student privacy in special education. From new FERPA guidance to court and hearing officer decisions, keeping up with the changes can be daunting. Jackie provides an engaging session on how changes to the law will impact special education technology programs as we move into the new “roaring twenties.” In addition, she addresses a diverse range of issues, including privacy considerations for a student with a disability participating in virtual or online learning, the implications of electronic listening devices on eavesdropping laws and student confidentiality, and notice requirements when a student’s assistive technology, such as a robot, captures live footage of a classroom.
