June 13, 2014
Amy K. Dickerson and Jennifer Smith present "A Principal’s Guide to Recognizing and Responding to Bullying," an Administrator's Academy hosted by DuPage's Regional Office of Education. This course provides an in-depth analysis of the legal requirements and best practices for responding to student bullying. Amy will provide practical recommendations for implementing bullying policies and procedures while incorporating lessons from recent case law, federal guidance, and applicable state laws. Participants will examine real life case studies and hypothetical situations to determine the best practices for investigating alleged bullying incidents, as well as implementing interventions at the conclusion of the investigation, including disciplinary action. Participants will leave with a deep understanding of the components of a legally compliant anti-bullying policy, and a toolbox of appropriate techniques for investigating and responding to bullying complaints. To prepare for this course, participants are required to review their district's anti-bullying policy and complete an assessment and implementation form provided by the presenters.
