Amy Dickerson presents "Legal Update on Two Important Topics For Students With Disabilities" at a workshop hosted by Black Hawk Area Special Education District (BHASED). Amy provides guidance on how to respond to the growing number of requests to have a student with a disability participate in extra curricular and/or sports activities. She also speaks to considerations with regard to both the IDEIA and Section 504 of the ADAAA. Additionally, Amy provides direction for IEP teams as they make important decisions about whether or not a student with a disability has met typical high school graduation requirements and graduate or if they may be in need of additional years of schooling. Any necessary additional years of schooling could extend the provision of special education and related services through the age of 21.
