ICSA 25th Annual School Law Seminar
November 18, 2011
Hyatt Regency Chicago

Mike Hernandez presents "So You Think There Is A 'Conflict of Interest' – What Is A Lawyer To Do?" at the Illinois Council of School Attorneys' (ICSA) 25th Annual School Law Seminar.  This presentation focuses on professionalism and ethics.  The discussion highlights how lawyers should address roadblocks to providing legal advice to school boards when confronted with alleged “Conflicts of Interest” between Board members, staff, and legal counsel.  The session also reviews the relevant sections of the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct, discusses actual scenarios and includes consideration of the lack of an Illinois Open Meetings Act exemption for providing legal advice.
