Jeff Nowak was quoted in The Des Moines Register on July 1 in the article, “New state worker mandate: Report your aliments.” The article addresses a new requirement that Iowa’s state government employees report their prescriptions and medical services to a private company—the Reed Group—that will monitor their absences has prompted at least three union complaints and questions about privacy.
Franczek Radelet is very pleased to announce its attorneys Edward Druck and Lindsey Marcus and paralegal Jessica McNamara won the prestigious Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service from the Northern District of Illinois in conjunction with the Federal Bar Association. This award is for their incredibly dedicated work in prosecuting the pro bono employment discrimination case that was assigned to the firm by the Court in 2012 and went to trial this past January. The award was presented at the 16th Annual Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service Award Ceremony on May 14.

Suppose a retailer declares bankruptcy. Several of its leases are sold off to another retail chain, which then remodels the stores, stocks them with its own merchandise and opens them under its own name. If this retailer hires some of the bankrupt company's employees, are those employees new hires under the Family and Medical Leave Act, or might they have the right to take FMLA leave immediately, without waiting 12 months or working 1,250 hours for the new company?

After more than a decade of litigation, the Champaign Community Unit School District No. 4 Board of Education in Champaign, IL approved a Settlement Agreement that ended a voluntary federal Consent Decree. The decree stems from complaints filed with the Office of Civil Rights by African-American Plaintiffs in 1996, which alleged racial discrimination.
