Jim Franczek: The Go-To Labor Guy

Chicago Sun-Times
October 8, 2012

Jim Franczek was profiled in the Chicago Sun-Times on October 8 in the article, "Rahm's Go-To Labor Guy: Leave 'No Footprints'".   The article highlights Jim’s major roles and successes in the various city negotiations, including Chicago Public Schools and McCormick Place.  The article poses the question, “So how come more people don’t know him [Jim]?” in which Jim responds his role is “…not to leave any footprints in the sand…”  “My role is to carry out the mission, the vision of the leaders I work for—Mayor Emanuel and, before him, Mayor Daley.  I’m not an independent policy-maker.  I’m an implementer of policy.”

Former deputy mayor Mark Angelson commented that keeping Franczek when the administration changed was an easy decision, “Jim Franczek, is by far, the best management-side labor lawyer I have met or worked with in my life,” said Angelson.  Gery Chico describes Franczek as a “problem solver…not one of those ideologues.”
