Amy K. Dickerson was quoted in "Plan For Situations In Which Bullied Student With Disability Fights Back" in Special Ed Connection published by LRP Publications.  The article focuses on how to address a situation in which a child with a disability retaliates against his or her bully due to potential disability harassment.

Amy advises districts to comply with the obligations under Section 504 to determine whether a child was a victim of disability harassment. “I would consider finding out about harassment after a student has been in a fight as putting the district on notice of possible disability harassment...This triggers specific obligations under Section 504,” said Amy.  She also agrees a district should provide the child with a 504 plan or IEP techniques to help him or her acquire skills to avoid inappropriate retaliation.  “Schools should view this step as only one of many they must take if they determine a student has been the victim of disability harassment,” she added.
