Transition Teams Scrutinize Federal Agencies

As the new administration prepares to take office on January 20, The Washington Post reports that President-elect Obama has dispatched agency review teams to dozens of government offices, where they are rigorously examining programs and policies. The Post reports that Obama's teams started earlier than review teams in prior administrations, which many hope will facilitate a smoother transition after inauguration day. However, the transition teams and the new administration also face challenges, from reluctance of some current administration officials to share certain information to budgetary constraints.
