Obama Announces Plan to Create Jobs with Massive Infrastructure Projects

Share

December 9, 2008

On Saturday, President-Elect Obama proposed to kick-start the economy and combat growing unemployment by creating the largest public works program since the construction of the interstate highway system in the 1950’s.  Though specifics have yet to be announced, the plan could include as much as $700 billion for a range of programs from transportation projects to expanding broadband Internet access to making federal buildings more energy efficient.  According to the Chicago Tribune, about 2 million jobs have been lost since the recession began a year ago.  The infrastructure plan would aim to create 2.5 million new jobs by 2011.

You can read about the proposal in the Chicago Tribune, the New York Times, and the Washington Post.
