Training Deadline Nears for FOIA Officers & OMA Designees

As you are aware from our prior Alerts, significant amendments to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) become effective January 1, 2010. Among the many new requirements is the designation of one or more FOIA Officers for each public body, each of whom must complete the online training program of the Illinois Attorney General no later than June 30, 2010. 5 ILCS 140/3.5. Similarly, amendments to the Illinois Open Meetings Act (OMA) require online training by OMA designees to be completed no later than June 30, 2010. 5 ILCS 120/1.05.
