November 25, 2008

Hoping to move the District of Columbia Public Schools and the Washington Teachers' Union toward a tentative agreement on a new contract, D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee and the American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten agreed last week to meet.  Educators and union leaders nationwide are closely watching the negotiations in D.C. since Rhee proposed awarding six-figure salaries and bonuses to teachers who agree to give up their tenure for a year.
