Nine education experts who have compiled their predictions on who will be the next Secretary of Education pick Arne Duncan as the favorite choice. Aside from Arne Duncan, others considered to be likely candidates for Secretary of Education by the experts include:
- Colin L. Powell, the former Secretary of State,
- James B. Hunt Jr., a former Governor of North Carolina,
- Joel I. Klein, Chancellor of the New York City Public Schools,
- Janet Napolitano, Governor of Arizona, and
- Michael L. Lomax, President of the United Negro College Fund.
