Department of Labor Issues Final FMLA Rules

November 19, 2008

On November 17, 2008, the U.S. Department of Labor ("DOL") published final rules substantially amending the existing regulations under the Family and Medical Leave Act ("FMLA"). These rules are the first changes to the exiting FMLA regulations since they went into effect in 1995. The new rules take effect on January 16, 2009.  Until then, employers should continue following the existing FMLA regulations.

The complete text of the final rules and commentary can be downloaded from the GPO Access Federal Register website here.

We provided an overview of some of the key provisions of the new rules in an e-mail bulletin to our clients.  To subscribe to our e-mail bulletins, please click here.
