New FMLA Regulations Take Effect Today

January 16, 2009

As all employers with 50 or more employees should now be aware, the Department of Labor's new Family and Medical Leave Act regulations take effect today, January 16, 2009. As of today, employers must administer requests for FMLA leave in accordance with the new rules.

Employers who have not already done so are strongly encouraged to update and revise their FMLA policies, procedures, and forms to comply with the new regulations. Employers who are still working on these updates should, at a minimum, post the Department of Labor's new FMLA "General Notice" in locations accessible to all employees as soon as possible. The new poster is available for download at the Department of Labor's Web site, http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/fmla/finalrule.htm.

Visit our Web site at www.FMLAregs.com for more information on the new rules and what employers should be doing to get ready.
