U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor to Hold Hearings on School Officials’ Use of Student Restraints
May 5, 2009
According to the Boston Globe, the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor will soon hold hearings on developing restrictions on when students can be restrained by school district officials. These hearings, to be held in the coming weeks, come as a response to recent discussions over school district officials’ decisions to restrain students, addressed in a report released this winter by the National Disability Rights Network. The Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, is preparing a report for the Committee on this issue. EdWeek’s daily political blog often reports on topics before the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor, as well as other issues before Congress: http://blogs.edweek.org/edweek/campaign-k-12/.
