Democrat and Republican Governors Agree on How to Spend ARRA Funds

The op-ed piece by Jeb Bush and James B. Hunt Jr. in the May 3, 2009 Chicago Tribune details how these two former governors from opposite sides of the political divide agree on how the federal economic stimulus money for education should be spent. Both former governors agreed that the priorities on which federal stimulus money should be spent should be:
- Increasing the number of students in college-prep classes;
- Installing comprehensive data systems to track student progress;
- Improving teacher quality through increased pay for increased effort; and
- Funding interventions in under-performing schools.
