Jennifer A. Smith concentrates her practice in special education law, student rights, policy development and civil rights litigation. She counsels school districts and community colleges concerning student discipline, student records, students’ rights and other student-related matters. She represents public school districts at IEP meetings, due process hearings, mediation and in state and federal court litigation.
Ms. Smith presented oral argument before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in a case regarding appropriate accommodations for a community college student with disabilities: Untermyer v. College of Lake County, No. 07-3265.
Prior to joining Franczek Sullivan P.C., Jennifer was an associate at Robbins Schwartz Nicholas Lifton & Taylor, Ltd. of Chicago, Illinois and with Spencer Fane Britt & Browne in Kansas City, Missouri. She received her J.D. from the University of Iowa, and did her undergraduate studies at the University of Northern Iowa.
