John A. Relias is a founding
partner of Franczek Sullivan P.C. who represents elementary
and secondary school districts and governing boards in suburban
Chicago. Mr. Relias concentrates on special education law
and several of his cases have been precedent-setting with
regard to disciplining special education students. He has
also counseled and litigated on matters of student rights,
student suspensions and expulsions, search and seizure, school
funding, employment and building construction.
Prior to forming Franczek Sullivan, Mr. Relias practiced
law for twenty-two years at Vedder, Price, Kaufman & Kammholz,
beginning in 1972. Mr. Relias graduated cum laude and as a
member of the Order of the Coif from Northwestern University
in 1972. He received an undergraduate degree in history in
1968 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, with highest distinction
also from Northwestern. Mr. Relias is a member of the Illinois
and National Association of School Boards Council of School
Attorneys. He is the past president of Wilmette School District
No. 39, served on that Board for twelve years (1989-1997, 2001-2005) and
is presently serving another term (2005-2009).
