Spotlight

On May 28, 2009, Franczek Radelet associate attorney and Diversity Committee member Deidra A. Norris received the President's Award for Exceptional Service to the Black Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater Chicago, Inc. (BWLA) in addition to being sworn in as a BWLA Board Member at Large for the 2009-2010 Bar Year.  The firm as a whole received the BWLA President's Award for Continuous Support of Diversity and Scholarship.  Click here for more information.

Biographical Information

As a member of both of the firm’s practice groups, Deidra has gained a unique perspective of employment law matters for both the public and private sectors. In addition to extensive work with several public school districts, she frequently advises employers in the hospitality and health care industries.

Deidra began her legal career as an associate at Thomas, Mamer & Haughey LLP where her practice included insurance, professional liability and civil rights defense and where she successfully argued on behalf of a municipality before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in a Section 1983 Civil Rights lawsuit. During law school, Deidra was nominated for the Rickert Award for Excellence in Advocacy in both 2005 and 2006, and won the award in 2006. Prior to her legal career, Deidra taught orchestra in both Texas and Illinois.

Deidra is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Cook County Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the Black Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater Chicago.

She has volunteered for the Champaign County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) as the attorney and guardian ad litem for minors in the abuse and neglect court. In November 2007, Deidra was awarded the George Frampton Award for Service for her work with CASA.

Deidra is a classically trained violinist who has performed throughout Texas and Illinois for more than 27 years.
