David P. Radelet
Dave is a founding partner of the firm and co-chair of the firm's Labor & Employment Practice Group. Throughout his distinguished legal career, Dave has focused exclusively on representing private sector employers in all aspects of labor and employment law in numerous locations throughout the country. His practice within the labor and employment field is broad-based, and includes many years of experience working with businesses to develop the labor and employment elements of core business strategies; representing employers in union-related issues and employment litigation before various courts and agencies; and general employment counseling. In union-related matters, he has represented management in scores of union organizing and decertification elections, unfair labor practice or other NLRB proceedings, collective bargaining negotiations, and arbitration proceedings. He has also amassed substantial experience in assisting mature union-represented employers in developing and implementing next-generation business strategies for new product development, complexity reduction, facility shutdown or relocation, and other essential strategic initiatives, with due regard for applicable legal and contractual obligations.
In employment-related litigation, Dave has represented employers before state and federal courts, the EEOC, and numerous state fair employment agencies in cases alleging employment discrimination, sexual harassment, breach of express or implied contract, and enforcement of no-compete or other restrictive covenants. He co-represented a Fortune 100 company in a massive declaratory class action in federal court relating to a $1 billion reduction in retiree health benefits affecting nearly 100,000 retirees and dependents in forty-nine states. Dave has provided general employment counseling and representation to employers on myriad employment matters such as drafting and enforcing employment contracts and restrictive covenants, strategizing asset transfers, structuring indirect service relationships, developing employee handbooks and policy manuals, and numerous issues raised by employment statutes such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and many others.
Dave graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1981 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics with high honors, from Michigan State University in 1978. In 2015, Dave was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni by the Michigan State University College of Social Science and delivered the commencement address. In 2017, Dave was named an Advisory Board Member for Law Bulletin Publishing's Leading and Emerging Lawyers. Dave is past chair of the board of directors of Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights, formerly known as Travelers & Immigrants Aid of Chicago.
